Kia ora CCW community from a lunchtime crew member.
It’s now been two years since I started at CCW – time flies when you’re having fun right? A couple of things have happened. I got my double unders, 3 T2B and a HSPU! It does not take that long when you work on it. It was only when coaches asked me to practice, (and I saw other people improving) that I made more of an effort to work on my weaknesses. I had to delay doing snatches or back squats for now. I still cannot crab walk, but can do table rocks.
[blockquote style=”boxed”]I’ve been turning up to class because these are people that I want to train with. People who are focused, have a great attitude for life and are just awesome. People leave and people join and I have had the pleasure to share WODs and build relationships with everyone that has turned up to lunch.[/blockquote]
Team Rabbits
I have competed in the CrossFit Open and was given my spiritual animal the Rabbit. The best team to be in. We nearly took out every CCW award at the 2017 AGM – Joker, Quiet Achiever, Coach and Taniwha! There are other teams, but I don’t want to talk about them! The In-house comp during the Open was so enjoyable and it’s coming around soon – so keep up the hard work Team Rabbits!
The CCW In-house Throwdown
Raana and I have competed in a team together two years running. Ask us to do some gymnastics we’re like ‘Meh!’. But now we are working on our gymnastics and it’s a slow process. The best part of this competition is the contribution that we make to support the community. For the past two years it has meaning for me because it’s benefited people that I know at CCW. I find it humbling when I train with them. The journey they have been through to be here at CCW can even be a real struggle. The cause is real and it affects real people.
Olympic Lifting classes with Coach Nic
I have totally enjoyed these classes. If you like lifting these are the classes to go to. Barbell heaven. I even bought new lifters for these classes especially. Oh, and Coach Nic is a Rabbit, just saying! The time spent with other CCW team members at these sessions was great too. It’s like a big bro-down, just like lunch class. Can’t wait for the next one… I know my 80kg snatch will come soon!
SugarWOD
This app has made competing easier, I can see scores and read how people planned their workouts. I use the notes to try and plan my own workout. Leaving comments is just the best. It’s easier when new members turn up to lunch and they say their name you know their numbers and where they are at. You can scope out the competition before you challenge them to a “tutu challenge”!
Whole Life Challenge
This is a great eating challenge at CCW. You eat well for a month and try not to derail and maybe sort out some bad habits. I’ve sort of kept this up and tried doing this challenge again with Ray. So look out for this one when it comes up. It’s a good one to take part in. I’m actually looking to win the challenge this time round. I need to take out the Doctor and the public servant, who won last year. Some interesting challenges and photos come up. It’s a great challenge to be in.
2017 AGM
The end of year AGM was a great success I had such a great time, so thank you very much for the night out. The bartenders, the people that helped – just a big thank you.
Working the Weaknesses
Now I’m working on my gymnastics and running. It’s a hard thing to do, working on your weaknesses. Weaknesses take longer to build and see results. However I have made some small gains. My small gains on my weaknesses are what brings me back to CCW. Those small wins mean a lot. Just one day I’ll achieve a full 10 meter of crabwalks. Mobility is always something that I forget to work on. Until I get injured or worse, miss a 75kg snatch… Mobility has a lot of benefits, it just takes time and needs to be constant.
Why we do it
CCW has this whanau feel, and it’s evident by the people that constantly turn up to class. For 2 years I have been coming to lunch time class and there is a constant empathy from coaches that they want you to achieve. This empathy comes through to the classes and the people. I’ve been turning up to class because these are people that I want to train with. People who are focused, have a great attitude for life and are just awesome. People leave and people join and I have had the pleasure to share WODs and build relationships with everyone that has turned up to lunch.
I’m so glad that the new classes have come in. I can meet the original lunch time crew members that can’t turn up to lunch. I know there are many original lunch crew members, and I do miss the uniqueness that you brought to the lunch time. If you ever have time to come to a lunch class, please turn up. It will be good to meet you and to those original lunch crew members I hope to see you again in class.
Lunch time crew 4 life!
