Te Rua

Coach

Kia ora! Ko Te Rua Munro tōku ingoa. Nō Ngāti Kahungunu ki te Wairoa ahau.

My background in fitness began in my hometown of Wairoa where I pretty much threw myself into any sport I could. In 2016, I moved to Wellington with my partner to study and 2 years later found myself at a trial class at CCW. Long story short – I got hooked and never left!

Since moving here I’ve gained experience in the industry working as a PT/Group fitness trainer at various gyms around Wellington. Completing my studies in sport and exercise science has also given me a strong foundation to build on these skills and the opportunity to be involved in some awesome research projects that have shaped the way I coach – in particular focusing on how mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori based approaches to kori tinana (fitness) can be used to empower whānau, hapū, and iwi and make positive lifestyle changes. I am a big advocate for Te Whare Tapa Whā and I love that CrossFit embodies a lot of these principles. I try to implement this into my coaching any way I can!

Ultimately, I love what CCW and training CrossFit has done for me – it’s challenged me, given me confidence, provided an opportunity to be mentored by an amazing group of coaches, and a community that really has been that whānau away from home. The classes are a vibe but it is the community that makes this place so special! It’s safe to say CrossFit has taken me through a whole new journey with fitness and I’m grateful to now be able to guide others through theirs as well.

Mauri ora!
